I purchased a lot of 8 plastic doll arms on ebay. In addition to non-stupid things. I plan to affix some of them to a painted wooden board and use it as a coat rack. I swiped the idea from some blog.

In other news, I ordered two pairs of rocking horse ballerinas from Double Decker, pink & white [black was out of stock in my size D;] They had a half-off on p&p deal so I went ahead and took th plunge. Now I am debating whether I should order some things from Innocent World, they have a lot of great things on sale right now. I never thought I'd get into lolita but I guess frillyness and cute prints win. Though if I had th ability I'd buy just about every piece from Rodarte's crazy amazing A/W 08 collection:

One more blow came before the year ended: my maternal grandmother DIED from a brain aneurysm the day after Xmas. What th FUCK, world?? It really can't be any worse this year.

I resolve to:

-Find a new place, which I will decorate and keep tidy.
-Start curling my hair [Does anyone know of any decent curlers/how to rag curl??]
-Eat healthily, try to cook once I have a clean kitchen to work with.
-Keep up my Deutsch!
-Get a decent camera [any suggestions? I just need a good, affordable point-and-shoot!] and start documenting my outfits every day.
-Get passport renewed, leave country for a little while.

Do you guys have any resolutions? Or suggestions on a camera? Hope this year is better than last.

Back in Wilmington. My great-aunt Jean died on Xmas Eve; my mum is on her way to Maryland now for th funeral. Ugh. On a scale of 1-10, this year ranks about a 3.

I was outbid on my dream dress:

So now am searching frantically for a similar one that I can alter slightly. To little avail, of course. BLARGH.

I don't really feel like inventorying my Xmas because I didn't get anything I really NEEDED [eg furniture] but will be getting some of that belatedly, hopefully. I got 100$ and Albertus Seba's Cabinet of Natural Curiosities from my family, the first volume of Krazy Kat and Moomin from Michael, Eastern Promises, Extras Season 2, Anthropologie coasters from Michael's family.

But it is too expensive. I might end up inheriting some of my grandparents' furniture but that won't be for a while, probably. We'll see.

Anyway, I hope everyone else's year was better than mine.

My grandfather died last week. I was in th middle of finals, so I didn't even know until after the funeral. It'll be weird, the first Xmas without my father's parents. Hm.

Some things purchased lately: a vintage 1940s rabbit ring, Noctuary by Thomas Ligotti, a navy blue vintage slip, a brooch with a photo of Mary Pickford already in it, v. old Russian nesting dolls, et cetera.

I also bought some cheap frames at th craft store today for finally framing some things, particularly my Suspiria lobby cards. They look so much better! I can't wait to move, I want salon-style walls of myriad framed things! Lease is up in February, finally, so I have been searching and searching for a good place. I am kind of smitten by two current artists, I would kill for some of their artz:

How I covet them! I may buy a Jen Corace lim. ed. notebook w/ an octy on it, it is only 16$ on etsy. I am also scouring etsy for cheap artz, but I am picky. If any of you guys have talent and wouldn't mind selling/trading a piece to me, comment!

Also, I am thinking of starting a separate fashion-y blog somewhere, once I finally decide to get a camera. It would probably be documentation of my outfits and also possibly street fashion photos I take wherever I am. That reminds me, best digital cameras for under 200USD??? I like that pink Fujifilm one I keep seeing round but don't know if it is any good.

Saw John Waters last week, was funny as hell. He loved my kelly green fur-collared coat and has a great handshake.

Saw BORIS mit Michio Kurihara and Damon & Naomi! It melted my face off, and afterwards I had a conversation w/ Naomi [and Damon] about Exact Change Press and books and Japanese.

Registered for spring classes, looks like if all goes according to plan, shall take:
Chem 102 [blech], Genetics + lab, Cultural Anthropology, Intro to Film Study, and Bollywood Cinema [yes I am now a double-major, I'm mad.]

What else? I don't know. I am sick. I have been buying too many books. The library book sale was th death of me; I got: a 1950s hardcover of H.C. Anderson's Fairy Tales w/ amazing full colour illustrations by Arthur Szyk, Henry & June by Anais Nin, Th Man w/ th Golden Arm by Algren, Bend Sinister by Nabokov, another copy of Th Trial by Kafka, another copy of Le Grand Meaulnes, a pretty hardcover copy of Poems of Milton, th Autobio of Malcolm X, th Panchatantra, a wonderful Modern Library copy of th Complete Writings of Thucydides, and a sock monkey. Also on Amazon/ebay I recently got: Impressions of Africa by Raymond Roussel, Sweet Days of Discipline by Fleur Jaeggy, A High Wind in Jamaica by R. Hughes. Also Michael gave me his old ipod nano since it works now. Now I never have to speak to people at school! Does anyone know of any good Tibetan/Mongolian albums I should download? I watched Khadak at th film festival the other day and it really was gorgeous.

Wot shall I be for Halloween? I am flummoxed but do have a few ideas:

Exhibit A: Edwardian trapeze artist.

Favourite idea, but probably the hardest to put together. I have no idea where to get bloomers of that type. Also, need a leotard w/ embroidery.

Exhibit B: Moira Shearer's character in The Red Shoes.

Need: red hairs, red pointe shoes, red lipstick D;

Exhibit C: "Miranda" in Picnic at Hanging Rock.

Have th entire outfit, except maybe long blond hairs and a parasol.

Exhibit D: An Octopus/squid.

Taking th animal costumes back from th furries, I wouldn't be literal-minded - more like "TH ESSENCE" of th octy. Floaty printed silk dress, maybe w/ some kind of tentacly drapings of scarves and a neat hat and dramatic makeup.

Any other ideas?? I only have thirty days, I needs my candy corns! Help me!

On Wednesday, Michael & I finally saw NEIL HAMBURGER perform in Chapel Hill. It was amazing. He threw a glass of gin at an audience member, and called everyone pricks who were taking photos, and ripped off the terrible band stickers from th walls of th club. Afterwards I got to shake his hand which was nice ^_____^

Some things which have come into my possession recently:

The world's most perfect rucksack - it is tapestry [with a castles and animals and such print, & supple leather straps/trim, from Belgium. Now I just need a bicycle to ride on while wearing it!

Two entirely hand-crocheted vintage 1960s dresses, one the green one from my previous post, another in ecru colour with cap sleeves.

A pair of navy t-straps w/ stacked heels, something for which I have been wishing.

A dark tweedy above-knee skirt w/ big pockets and leather trim.

A pair of strange lavendar-coloured old-lady-esque silk high-waisted shorts.

A set of old lithos of various science figures, including one of Louis Pasteur holding white bunnies. Need frames for them.

A silk 1950s dress with a purple deer/floral print!

A tenth edition of Anita Loos' Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, w/ a nice red and white deco cover and 1920s illustrations throughout. Inside th cover someone w/ old handwriting wrote:

Also, uni has started and I don't really mind most of my classes, though I am not really enamoured w/ most of them. I am th class pet in film, and I kind of love my archaeology prof.

Went to Heroes-Con a while ago; some things purchased:

Michael bought an Xbox 360 w/ his tax refund. He is within th clutches of Elder Scrolls IV now.

I go to & fro from Nesting Mode to Wayfaring Mode. Right now I am in Nesting Mode. Nesting Mode entails daydreaming of decorating and cottages w/ overgrown gardens and wallpapers, and nearly crying when I can't buy The Perfect Sofa [it was a 30$ vintage pink brocade number on craigslist that I missed by thismuch.] My ebay watchlist is full of things such as vintage lamps and linens, antique tea sets and deco prints. I'm sure in a few months Wayfaring Mode will swing back round and I will have the urge to sell nearly everything I own and travel forever with only my Marimekko suitcases full of things. [Which I WILL OWN SOMEDAY SOON, BEFORE I GO OVERSEAS AGAIN!!!]

I have a pang in my gut for this apartment in the area of Wilmington I must live in [Carolina Place 'hood]. It is only <3mi down Market Street from my current dwelling and RIGHT next to Wallace Park, the park I most want to picnic at. Also, it is right near the big old cemetery, and across from Port City Java! On top of this, it has wood floors and is only $695/month for a two bedroom, 1000sqft place. O, 1918-A Pender Avenue, I wish to reside within yr walls!

Lots of light, lots of windows. I love th moulding and if I could live there I would paint the top parts of th walls pretty colours, possibly pale green, yellow, and/or lilac.

Yargh, I want that flat! I plan to scour th area I want for rentals when it is closer to time to move.

Anyway, more things I am wishing for:

Edwardian silk dress, c1918! OMGay, this dress is a pure dream and I plan to have a replica in a better colour made for me someday...it went for 290USD!

This dress I plan on splurging for, because it is perfectly cut and the most perfect minty colour.

Creepy figural lamp I hope gets relisted.

A children's book with th most perfect deco-era illustrations, I am going to spend forty dollars or more on a copy to own. I would like to start a collection of nice old books [I own a few already, particularly a 1930s copy of Gogol's Dead Souls] and also old overthtop pulp books.

Also, am pretty certain I would like to have the last plate [or maybe th first...] modified for a half-sleeve tattoo. I finally found th tattoo idea I believe I will love forevermore. And then on th other arm [because I am a stickler for symmetry in some way] I would possibly get my Albertus Seba-inspired cephalopodal half-sleeve in a similar colour palette!

Went to see Werckmeister Harmonies for free at my uni Wednesday. There was a handful [ie 5] older people, about 15 students there for extra credit, and me. The print was in rather dodgy shape, but it was still beautiful.

Also on Wednesday, during German class, a girl of 18-20 HAD NO IDEA WHO BARACK OBAMA IS. Thankfully another girl jumped on her case and told her who he was before I could be overtly rude. I still made a terrible grimacing face.

Tomorrow Michael and I are going to take a trip to Charlotte. Hope to see Hot Fuzz!

Oh, and I will have a summer job at my uni library, starting in May; yay.
